Day 8 {Make Madness} – Part 2 – Washi Tape Stickers

Day 8 – Washi Tape Stickers

There are a few things in life I can’t seem to get enough of… boxes, glitter, yarn, dogs and stickers.  Today I’m focused on stickers ;-).  I have always loved stickers.  There was a time when there were stores devoted to stickers.  Like a candy shop, you could browse the rolls of stickers and buy as many as you wanted in all sizes, shapes, colors and themes.  Sticker only shops don’t exist any more, but my love of stickers hasn’t waned.

0128ddfe6fc4958380d22ac734e2684c4e342e5ce0I remember being in high school when my closest friend came home from a family vacation with a little strawberry covered tin.  It was a gift for me and it contained stickers.  I still have that tin and the memories of how happy that gift made me.  My friend had no idea how much I loved stickers or how thoughtful her gift was that 30 years later I still have the tin.

Today’s tutorial worked out… sort of.  I followed the tutorial instructions, but I couldn’t, for the life of me, get my punches to cut through the washi tape/wax paper layer cleanly.  I can only think that my punches are old and the wax paper isn’t strong enough.

Instead of throwing in the towel, though, I repeated a technique I’ve shown with a couple of cards (St. Patrick’s Day and Valentine’s Day) with a bit of a spin.

013c9dcecb7a87b1ef25889cb922d347fd87e88f49I used the same 5 washi tape designs, but on 3 different colored piece of cardstock.  Because washi tape is translucent, the color of whatever it is stuck to comes through.  I really liked the result.  These are all the same shapes with the same tape designs, but each with a different look.0115d3c919164fadcc40e2848ee8ea4bccc963a9da019bbbc6eaff052a21054a2575c4dcca2ec1922acd0183e1363e92f9133812f865b7bd028ed7c4503c05This would help to add varied color to a card or paper project, but keep all the elements in the same color family. While the original plan for today didn’t work out, I’m still pleased that I found a new spin on an old technique and I added a few more stickers (once I add glue dots) to my collections.

Until tomorrow,

Grace

Paws || Walk On – 3.1 – 3.14

Every now and then when I’m walking dogs, I will just stop, ask them to sit for about 30 seconds and then I will say “walk on”. That is there cue to start walking again. I do this for a couple of reasons: 1. They’re super focused when they’re on the walk and I like to know I can get their attention any time I need it. 2. It’s good to continue to incorporate training into their daily routines. Just as we need to continue to refine our skills, so must dogs.

This always reminds me how important it is for me to pause and reflect on the past week and then think about the next one as I “walk on”.

We’ve been talking about what we’re going to get for Woody for his birthday.  Mindy suggested some tennis balls and I thought a box a treats would be great.  We’re both hoping he’ll ‘share’ his gifts with us.

Day 7 {Make Madness} – Part 2 – DIY Glue Dots

Make Madness

Day 7 – DIY Glue Dots

01fbd89cb0368070702cd0ad076bf6c5ba323180e2I knew going into this project that it would take a while for the glue dots to ‘dry’.  I used Aleene’s Tack-It Over & Over adhesive, squeezed out glue dots onto waxed paper and let it sit for at least 3 hours.  Even then, it was still gooey.  I left it for a couple more hours and it resembled the glue dots you buy in the store.

Now the real test, for me, takes place.  I took one of my enamel dots, stuck on a glue dot 010df85c55f62e6c022bcbdc031c1a46d9777a0b4fand adhered it to a piece of paper.  Initially the enamel dot stuck to the paper, but after a few minutes I tried to see if the dot was permanent and it popped off.  The glue dot was sticky, but not like a permanent adhesive.  I’m going to let it sit over night and see how it is in the morning.  I’ll keep you posted.

Until tomorrow,

Grace

Day 7 of Make Madness – DIY Glue Dots

gluedot013When I’m working on cards or any paper crafting project, I use a ton of glue dots.  If you buy glue dots, you know they’re expensive and gone before you know it.

I came across this tutorial for DIY glue dots and if it works will save me a ton of money.

Come back tonight to see how I did.

Until this evening,

Grace

Saturday Snippets | March 7, 2015

Welcome to Saturday Snippets.  This is where I share links and odd bits of info from the past week.

1. Older dogs have a lot to teach other dogs.

2.  While my dogs wouldn’t be crazy about a train ride, it’s nice to know that other pet owners traveling on Amtrak can take their pets if they want.

3.  All my excuses are removed when I watch a video like this.

4. This is so awesome.

5.  Somethings just take practice.

Well that’s all the snippets I have for today.  Have a wonderful Saturday,

Grace

I love helping Pippin here to walk with me and for your information, I would love to go on a train.  Oh and I can catch stuff with my eyes closed… just sayin’

Day 6 {Make Madness} – Part 2 – Crocheting Tiny Flowers

Day 6 – Crocheting Tiny Flowers

I knew I liked to crochet, but this project reminded me why I LOVE to crochet.  The first tutorial I chose wasn’t very well written or maybe it was and I’m not a good student.  I decided to see if Lucy from Attic24 had any tiny flower tutorials and she did.  Her instructions are out of this world.  Lucy is the one that designed the Ripple Blanket pattern I’m using for one of my Quest46 projects.

71KlU1taY+L._SL1200_I used my leftover Bonbons yarn from Lion Brands Yarn.  I originally used this yarn to crochet the miniature stocking ornament during {30 Days of Christmas Ornaments}.

The instructions were amazing and before I knew it I was crocheting tiny flowers in no time at all.  It was fairly addictive and I see myself making a few more of these.  I used a size 3.5mm crochet hook and Lion Brand Bonbons cotton yarn.

And here’s the result.  I can see myself hot gluing buttons and/or pearls in the middle of these flowers.

Day 6 of Make Madness – Crocheting Tiny Flowers

bc3ac4b0080a7975fd8a4e9a74252154Recently I started crocheting again and remembered how much I enjoyed this craft.  I’m currently working on a wedding gift for a friend and have ordered the wool for my ripple blanket {Quest46}.

I came across this tutorial and wanted to make a bunch of these little flowers.  They would make beautiful embellishments on my cards.

Come back tonight to see how I did.

Until this evening,

Grace

Day 5 {Make Madness} – Part 2 – Photo Collage

Make Madness

Day 5 – Photo Collage

FullSizeRenderWell, this project was a lot of fun, but also a huge challenge to choose photos.  I wanted to use all of them, but there isn’t a frame large enough.  I’ll definitely need to make another one because I have pictures of recent dogs that haven’t been developed yet.

IMG_3066I started by taking an old frame and repainting it to match the colors in our entry way.  While the paint dried, I started to choose photos and crop them.  Then the gluing began.

IMG_3064I don’t know if it was a good idea by starting in the middle, but in the end I managed to stick all the photos down.  This project was one that took much longer than I anticipated, but I’m so glad I finished it.  It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

I’m definitely going to make a collage each for my dogs.

Day 5 of Make Madness – Photo Collage

91550e3178d7752317f6daf41e98e26aAs you’ve probably guessed I have A LOT of pictures of my dogs and the dogs that I take care of.  I’ve been wanting to do a collage of all the pictures and place them in a large frame.  I have one similar to the one above, but I also have a few smaller frames that I’ve considered devoting to each of one of my dogs.

Come back tonight to see how I did.

Until this evening,

Grace
