Saturday Snippets | October 17, 2015

Welcome to Saturday Snippets.  This is where I share links and odd bits of info from the past week.

Sorry for missing last week… I was trying to get back to normal life activities after my England trip and also fighting the dreaded jetlag.  It’s always so good to go with my mom to see my grandad, but it’s equally as good to get home to my hubby and pups.

1.  I’m not a huge sports enthusiast, but I have great appreciation for the talents of athletes no matter the sport.  Take this for instance…

2.  Just loving a new app called Pocket.  I have it on my desktop, phone and ipad.

3. I love stories like this and learned things about cheetahs I never knew. (for some reason the video plays twice)

4. The level of detail in these miniatures is incredible.

5.  And finally….  all weekends should begin with a video of a cat petting a pig to sleep.

Well that’s all the Snippets I have for today.  Have a wonderful rest of your day,

Grace

Dogs Galore

That cheetah runs really fast.  We hope you’re not getting a cheetah because none of us could out run him.

2.  Cuteness overload.

3. Just love her process videos.

4. More cute goats… wearing jammies.  These guys crack me up.

5.  And finally….  more funny, cute baby goats.

Well that’s all the Snippets I have for today.  Have a wonderful rest of your day,

Grace

That’s a lot of goat videos, mom.  Are you trying to tell us we’re getting a goat?

Saturday Snippets | September 26, 2015

Welcome to Saturday Snippets.  This is where I share links and odd bits of info from the past week.

I’m in England at the moment visiting my granddad so I thought today’s Snippets should have an English flair.

1. I must start with Sheep Dog Trials.  It’s amazing to watch these dogs work.

2.  Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest reigning British monarch in history.

3. While this is a long-ish video, it does a great job of showing where we are.

4. A great British comedian.

5.  And finally….  a whole load of awesome and tears.  (Spoiler- they win the whole contest)

Well that’s all the Snippets I have for today.  Have a wonderful rest of your day,

Grace

The herding instinct is great in me and while we don’t have sheep for me to herd, we do have Woody.

Homemade Dog Biscuits

If we were raised by an orangutan, we’d still be friends when we grew up.  It’s just how we roll.

SOLCAL_medium25. I’m going a little crazy for knit-a-longs and crochet-a-longs at the moment.  I found this Spice of Life Blanket this week and it’s free.

Woody 4th July

If my mom had a hotel, she’d adopt all the shelter dogs and then have them hang out in the lobby to greet and sit with the guests.  And she’d made me wear a bow tie!

It’s never too late to learn

Just about a year ago, in a post titled, “Going back to school – sort of”  I wrote about my love of learning and my desire to continue my “education” through non-traditional methods like tutorials and online classes.

ShimelleSeveral years ago I discovered Shimelle Lane, a UK Scrapbooker and amazing teacher.  She offered an online class called “Learn Something New Everyday”.  The idea was that, for an entire month, you learn something new everyday and scrapbook about it.  The class cost $15 and along with all the incredible materials, I also received a lifetime membership, if you will.  Every year on September 1st, I receive an email from Shimelle encouraging me to start the adventure all over again at no additional cost to me.  What a deal!

While I haven’t gone through the full 30 days every year, I have been made more aware of the process of learning something new everyday.  I’ve always considered myself a curious soul, but learning doesn’t just happen.  It requires effort and intention.  This is where Shimelle’s class hits the spot.  She provides you with daily prompts, but doesn’t box you in either.  And she doesn’t pile on a lot of extra work.  You can record your insights in any method you like from the simple to the complex.

I’ve decided to give this a go again – not everyday, but two to three times a week.  I’ll be sharing my efforts and collecting my thoughts and pictures in a very simple mini book.

What are some things you’d like to learn to do?  What are some things that you could teach?

Until next time,

Grace

You know that head tilt thing that Ellie does?  I want to learn how to do that.

Saturday Snippets | August 29, 2015

Welcome to Saturday Snippets.  This is where I share links and odd bits of info from the past week.

1. Amazing story of a man who knows where his strengths lie.

2.  When I make soap, I order my scents from brambleberry.com.  Their Rustic Fragrance Collection makes me want to make several batches of soap.  I’ve made soap using the Cinnamon Sugar fragrance oil and it felt like we were showering with cookies for months. I think I want to try the Warm Flannel next.

3. Get out the Kleenex and count your blessings.

4.  Too cute.

5.  And finally, while this video did not get my dogs howling, it did garner a few head tilts.

Well that’s all the Snippets I have for today.  Have a wonderful rest of your day,

Grace

Nine Today

Mindy turns 9 today.  In honor of her special day, I thought I would tell you the Nine Reasons I Love Mindy.

Mindy9

01d6b0189448943bfe1e6c257324a01911dd6046c31.  She gets sooooo excited when we get ready to go for a walk.  Everyday.  Like it is the first time every time.  I love her enthusiasm.

IMG_54762.  She is wonderful with other dogs.  I often take care of friends and family’s dogs and Mindy is very welcoming and the first to say, “Wanna play?”

Bow Tie on Mindy

3.  She endures the celebratory bow ties.

Mindy on Chair4.  She would let you pat her head from now until the end of time.  It’s her signature move.  You’ll be standing and suddenly she will appear right under your hand and just stay there.

5.  She is not fond of junior high aged children.  Not sure why, but she runs and hides in the back bedroom whenever a child that age is around.

015ec4347527f24feddfe18f4391a9a682248e77b86.  She wakes me up every night around 2am to go outside.  Most of the time she has to go to the bathroom, but sometimes she just likes to sit outside on the hill and look at the stars.  Kinda makes me crazy at that hour of the night!

01edbe3e7dcef64b8b9f73ff68a3ef773e91c31e877.  She loves to look out the window in the craft room.  She’s content in there for hours.01f1f54fce48bea944f189e44b152eca939dfff85c

8.  She and Ellie are my constant companions.

IMG_5479

9.  She loves to herd Woody.  Mindy is German Shepherd/Border Collie mix and has a very strong need to herd.  She also loves to lick his face.  He’s used to it now.

We do love her and are so glad she came into our lives.  Happy Birthday Mindy!!!!
