Checking in…

Hi there.  Remember me?  I know it’s been ages (June!) since my last crafty post (I promise I’ll be back), but I’ve had a very busy summer taking care of dogs (my other passion, next to crafts). AND while I enjoy a thematic series of posts as much as the next guy, I fried myself a bit with my daily projects/posts back in May and needed a breather.

Despite my lack of daily posts, I’ve been busy crafting and creating and organizing and walking dogs and playing with dogs and … ;-).  It’s been a fantastic summer, but now I want to get back to a regular posting schedule (not necessarily every day) and share my creations with you.

Here are a few of the things I did to pass the summer away:

celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary.

meandmike

took care of lots of doggies (yea!!!)

butch rules

celebrated summer birthdays with outdoor jenga.  Lots of fun.

won a giveaway from Andi at AndreSueKnits.com.  If you like hand painted and dyed wool, this is the place to go.

made myself a new planner (eek!).  More posts to come about this projects.  I am loving this new design.

made neck coolers for the dogs.  For several weeks this summer we experienced several triple digit days in a row.  When I woke up one morning at 5am and it was already 70 degrees, I knew it was time to wrap these babies around my babies.

made a bead drying rack.  I have discovered the “pandora style” bead and am anxious to share my progress with you.  Excitement coming soon!!!

made a gelli plate for mono printing.  I’ve wanted a gelli plate for some time, but they’re pricey, so I made one.  It works great for a fraction of a fraction of the cost.  I’ll share more in the weeks and months to come.

Paws || Walk On – 6.14 – 7.4

Every now and then when I’m walking dogs, I will just stop, ask them to sit for about 30 seconds and then I will say “walk on”. That is there cue to start walking again. I do this for a couple of reasons: 1. They’re super focused when they’re on the walk and I like to know I can get their attention any time I need it. 2. It’s good to continue to incorporate training into their daily routines. Just as we need to continue to refine our skills, so must dogs.

This always reminds me how important it is for me to pause and reflect on the past week and then think about the next one as I “walk on”.

Paws | Week of 6.14-6.27  (two weeks worth)

• talked to my grandpa in England.
• still watching West Wing again (for the 3rd time).  Only 2 seasons to go.
Howie and Woody• watched a friend’s dog for a few days.
• finished reading Death of a Prankster by M.C. Beaton.
• walked the dogs.  Decided to keep track of our walks on a calendar.  So far for 2015: 165 out of 180.
• watched Tootsie after several decades.  Still so good.
• had coffee and knit with friends.
• attended the wedding of a dear friend.
Apron Side 2 Apron Side 1• finished an apron (belatedly) for my dad-in-law for Father’s day.
• had dinner with extended family and caught up with a cousin who we haven’t seen in years.

Knit Picks Chroma GreyKnit Picks Chroma Hollyhock• skyped and knit with a friend who lives in San Diego.  We’re going to start the same project in July.  The Joker and the Thief Shawl.  I chose a variegated fingering weight wool for the color and a grey for the solid.  Chroma from Knit Picks.
• continued with the Photo-a-day challenge for June.
Neck CoolerNeck Cooler on Mindy• we’ve been experiencing very hot temperatures (100+) so I made the dogs some neck coolers.  I used water absorbing crystals that really expand and really keep you cool.  The 20″ neck cooler only required 2 tsps of crystals.  I think I’m going to make some for Mike and I!

• changed my wake up time to 5am to beat the heat while walking the dogs.  I’ve had to change my bedtime to 8pm.  A bit of a transition, but worth it.
• helped to count the offering at church.
• went for a hair cut.

Tangled MessGiant Jenga• wound a couple skeins of newly purchased wool.  Ended up with a horrible tangle on the second skein.  Took a week to unwind, but so worth it.
• celebrated my nephew’s birthday.  Had a great party complete with Giant Jenga.  Get ready to jump when it finally falls.

Bow TieBow Tie on Mindy• made bow ties for the dogs in preparation for their 4th of July celebration.  Mindy really likes hers. No-really- she does.

Ripple Blanket• continued with the Ripple Crochet Blanket for a wedding gift.
01155186f43602eca1bd1bb0336efa46e2dce65c7d_00001• still working on Margaret’s scarf.

Walk On | Week of 6.28-7.4

• call my grandpa in England.
• finish Photo-a-day challenge for June and start for July.
• take care of a friend’s dog.
• continue to work on Margaret’s scarf.
• start embroidering the first panel of Mike’s Dr. Who Quilt.
• continue to make the Ripple Crochet Blanket for a wedding gift.
• continue to organize my craft room.  I work on this all the time.  It’s taking so long because I’ve re-organizing sections and trying to make things more efficient.  One day it will be done.
• start posting some items to Etsy.
• start reading What the Dog Knows by Cat Warren (not a joke) and I Saw a Man by Owen Sheers.
• work on Quest46.

My favorite quote from the week:  “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”
Epicurus

Have a wonderful week,
Grace

This is MY bed and no cat will be allowed to commandeer it.  Well, unless it’s a lion, tiger, mountain lion or cute little tiny kitten.  Then I’ll give up my bed.  Large cats scare me and kittens melt me.  But other than that… this is MY bed!
