Ornament #9 – Ball of Yarn & Needles
If you love yarn for knitting, crochet or any fiber art, then this is the ornament for you.
For lovers of yarn, there is nothing more satisfying that a yummy ball of yarn with (or without) needles poking through. For me it’s the possibility of what the skein of yarn contains – what will it end up being? A scarf, socks, a sweater, slippers, gloves, a coffee cozy, a cat toy, or a blanket.
This was a very easy ornament, very fast and a great chance to use scraps of yarn. I used a glass ornament, my glue gun, tooth picks, beads, ribbon and scraps of yarn.
Starting at the top of the ornament, I ran a thin bead of glue around the top of the ball and laid the yarn in the glue. I continued around until I reached the bottom then I wrapped the yarn haphazardly around the ball. After I was happy with the end result, I secured the end with a dot of glue. For the “needles”, I took a toothpick, glued the end into a round bead and tucked them into the “skein”. Took no more than 10 minutes.

I have a horrible habit of starting knitting projects and then not completing them. There are two projects currently and one is the Central Park Hoodie.

I’m more of a Christmas candy person – fudge is the best! I might eat a few :o)
I really enjoy iced sugar cookies, but I usually make Rice Kriskie Treats for my nephew. Can you believe anyone that does not like chocolate, him!
No I can’t believe that anyone wouldn’t like chocolate. You’re a really good grandma for making him a special treat.
My grandma makes these awesome cookies, I’m not sure what they are. They’re sort of like wedding cookies with the powdered sugar. But better. And I can’t make them, but last year I learned to make the chocolate covered peanut butter balls my grandma also makes! So maybe this year I’ll make them for her.
You should give it a go. Like most things, the more you practice the better you’ll get.
Not really into cookies, but like some eggnog…
Oh eggnog’s really good. When I was 9 or 10, I took a cooking class at the local library. Eggnog was the first thing they taught us how to make.
I love the ball cookies…peanut butter balls, and rum balls:)
I love cookies as does my family! We bake alot during the holidays. I don’t make the ball cookies due to time but I started making this cookie that I thought sounded good and would be quick..I bought some Peppermint Sugar Cookies in the refrigerated section, baked per directions, brushed with melted chocolate chips and refrigerated, them frosted with white frosting and sprinkled with crushed peppermint:) They are soooo yummy and easy to make!
They sound fantastic! I’ll bet they look pretty too.
I’m not sure of the name, my Mom called them snowballs but they are shortbread balls rolled in powder sugar.I have never made them,but maybe I will give it a try this year!!
That sounds like a good idea.
Favorite cookie is Cowboy Bobs, but at Christmas I make the traditional cut out sugar cookies, set out a huge assortment of decorating stuff, and let the grandkids (parents, aunts, uncles, and other grandparents) make a happy mess! In the end it is far more about decorating than eating… ha.
